MS Oakes was engaged to demolish the old estate offices at Somerleyton Hall, which were built in the 1980s.
The offices were situated within the grounds of the original Hall and surrounded by Grade II Listed garden and estate walls. Given the historic nature of the surrounding structures, the demolition had to be carried out with extreme care to minimise any damage to the older walls. The building was carefully dismantled by hand, and asbestos cement boarding from the roof was carefully removed and disposed of prior to demolition.
After the demolition, some brickwork required repair, and certain materials were hand-cleaned and returned to the client for future use in the estate’s restoration works.
We collaborated closely with the estate manager and the listed building officer throughout the project, ensuring that all works were carried out in compliance with heritage preservation guidelines. The project was successfully completed and led to further work opportunities at Somerleyton Hall.
