MS Oakes was engaged to undertake alterations and refurbishment works on the East Pavilion and Corridor of Heveningham House, a Grade I Listed Building.
The project involved the insertion of steelwork to enable the creation of a more open space, allowing for the installation of a large feature staircase and the fitting of new furniture. The lead roof was replaced, and new doors were installed along the connecting corridor.
Access to the site was highly restricted, with all materials and equipment being transported via a first-floor window. This required the use of both external and internal scaffolding to safely lift and pass items through the window. Special care was taken to ensure the scaffolding was watertight to prevent any water damage to the Hall during the works.
The historic nature of the building meant extra precautions were necessary to protect the rest of the Hall from damage, dust, and debris. Temporary dust-proof screens were erected and carefully monitored throughout the project to maintain a clean and safe environment.
The works were successfully completed to the client’s satisfaction and with the approval of the conservation officer, ensuring both the preservation and enhancement of this important historic property.
