Improvement Works to Jubilee Parade, Lowestoft – Phase 1

MS Oakes was engaged by East Suffolk Council to carry out phase one of the project to improve the Jubilee Parade and surrounding area. Our scope of work included significant demolition and structural improvements, notably the demolition of the existing chalet block and the strengthening of the existing retaining wall.

During the works, we when removing the concrete slabs which formed the base to the chalet block, we uncovered elements of the old sea wall which had been damaged during 1965 storm. This had simply been buried and the chalet block built over the top of it. So additional works were required to locate, remove and dispose of this buried wall ready for phase two, the construction of new beach huts.

Public access was maintained at all times during the works. We carefully managed pedestrian safety by establishing designated ‘safe zones’ along the site. Additionally, to ensure safe transportation of materials and resources between Claremont Pier and the site, all vehicles were escorted on foot along the promenade.

The project was completed successfully, on time and within budget, in Spring 2024, with minimal disruption to the public and lead to our involvement in phase 2 of this project.
