Town Hall, Great Yarmouth

MS Oakes was engaged by Great Yarmouth Borough Council to carry out extensive refurbishment and reroofing works at the Town Hall.

The scope of works included a complete re-roofing of the building, refurbishment of skylights, guttering, lead flashings, and roof structures, as well as essential stonework repairs. We also replaced the lightning protection system and added a pest control system. To ensure safety, we installed a fall protection system, which will also allow future work, such as maintenance and gutter clearing, to be carried out securely.

Due to limited space on-site, we obtained a road closure order for a small side street, where our cabins and welfare facilities were set up on a scaffold structure, allowing for secure storage underneath.

Throughout the project, the Town Hall remained in use, so careful coordination was required to plan the sequencing of works. The project was executed in three phases to minimise disruption to ongoing operations. In addition, special care was taken to ensure safe public access, with sound limitation and dust suppression measures put in place to protect the building’s users and the surrounding area.

The project was successfully completed on time and within budget, over the course of twelve months, with minimal disruption to the public and the building’s functions.
