MS Oakes was engaged to carry out the refurbishment of a vacant building, including the repair and replacement of over 30 sash windows that were in a poor state of repair.
Although the building is not listed, it is set within a conservation area, so the works had to be carried out with sensitivity to the local heritage and architectural character. All works were closely overseen by the architect [link] and the conservation officer to ensure minimal disruption to the original structure, with replacements kept to a minimum.
Most of the sash window repairs were carried out on-site by our team of skilled, directly employed carpenters. These repairs included splice work, replacement of damaged components, and the restoration of sashes within existing frames. Where necessary, we replaced the windows entirely with purpose-made sash windows crafted by our sister joinery company.
During the course of the works, it was discovered that the building’s condition was worse than initially anticipated, revealing the need for additional roof repairs. We successfully completed all works, including these additional repairs within the original project timescale.
