Britannia Pier, Great Yarmouth

The project involved remodelling and resurfacing the underpass below Britannia Pier, Great Yarmouth. Key aspects of the work included the rebuilding and strengthening of retaining walls to support part of the promenade and the diamond cutting of the seawall to accommodate new copings. Additionally, a retaining wall was removed and reconstructed in brickwork to widen the footway.

The site presented several challenges due to its exposed location along the seafront facing the North Sea. During the works, the underpass was temporarily closed, and pedestrian access was diverted around the front of the pier. To minimise disruption to the public, the works were strategically scheduled for the quieter winter months.  Access to the site was restricted to foot traffic only, which limited the use of machinery. Consequently, we relied on smaller equipment, and all materials were delivered by hand cart.

Despite these constraints, the project progressed smoothly and was completed on time and within budget, with minimal disruption to the public.
