Gorleston promenade

MS Oakes was engaged by Great Yarmouth Borough Council for the construction of a timber-framed, timber-clad amenity block on the lower promenade at Gorleston beach, designed to match the beach huts being procured by the council.

The project presented several challenges. The site facilities were located in the upper cliff car park, and all resources and materials had to be transported down to the lower promenade via a steep cliff path. During the works, the cliff path remained open to pedestrians, and continued public access to the promenade was essential. To address this, the transport of materials was carefully scheduled to avoid peak times, and the work site was secured with fencing to ensure public safety.

The project also required connections to the mains drainage system. Due to the unusual construction of the drainage, Anglian Water mandated the use of a specialist licensed contractor to carry out the connection using a specific method.

Additionally, the project had a tight timeline, as it needed to be completed before the new beach huts were delivered.

Overcoming these challenges, the project was successfully completed on time and within budget, providing the community with a new amenity block that complements the beach huts.
